Tips for Traveling to China:From Arrival at the Airport to Your Destination

Welcome to China! I’d like to share some personal tips for getting from the airport to your travel destination.

  1. Collect your luggage and personal items before getting off the plane
Before disembarking, pack up all personal items you used on the plane, such as the blanket used during rest, mobile phones, electronic devices used to pass the time, and so on. Make sure they are properly stored, especially communication tools like mobile phones. When getting off the plane, take all your luggage and belongings with you. Remind your family or travel companions to get ready to leave.
  2. Gather and check your belongings after landing
After getting off the plane, meet up with your family or travel companions and count your belongings. Do not do anything else until you have confirmed everything is there.
  3. Pick up your checked luggage
If you have checked baggage, remember to go to the baggage claim area to collect it.
  4. Adjust your clothing properly
Add or remove clothing appropriately according to the local temperature. Temperatures in China vary by region and season. You only need a simple adjustment; you can change into more suitable clothes after reaching your destination. The main purpose is to avoid discomfort, colds, or other health problems.
  5. Check the location and choose transportation
Use a map app to check the distance and location between the airport and your destination. Map apps usually recommend routes and transportation options. The specific choice depends on your actual situation. Once decided, leave the terminal with your family or companions and head to the transport stop.
  6. Leave the terminal and go to the transport station
Follow the signs to exit the terminal. Some airports are very large and connected directly to transport hubs, such as subway stations, bus stops, taxi stands, etc. If you have any questions while exiting, you can ask the airport staff. Whether you take the subway, a taxi, or other transport, prepare some cash in advance. In China, people usually pay for shared cars, subways, and other services using mobile apps.
  7. Arrive at your hotel
When taking transportation, if you ride the subway, be sure to keep all your luggage and personal items with you when transferring and when getting off. If you take a taxi, do not forget your belongings and luggage in the trunk. Do not leave anything on the vehicle. Before getting out, check again with your family or travel companions that everything has been taken, including mobile phones, backpacks, and other carry‑on items.
After arriving at the hotel, complete the check‑in procedure. Once finished, keep your room card, ID, passport, and other documents safe. After your luggage is brought to your room, you may consider resting to adjust to jet lag.
If you are hungry, you can call the front desk using the room phone or other devices, or go out to find a restaurant near the hotel.
